A fairy cluster is a miniature amethyst: a handful of interlocking purple points grown together in a small volcanic pocket. Tuck it into a pouch, set it in a crystal grid or give it a place on a tiny altar.

Approx. 0.5–1 in (1.2–2.5 cm)

Formed in the earth
Every cluster grows its own skyline.
Over thousands to millions of years, mineral-rich fluids inside volcanic cavities feed tiny quartz crystals that slowly merge into clusters. With little room to grow, fairy clusters stay small, and each one ends up with its own arrangement of points. Amethyst like this is found in Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, Zambia and the United States.

Bring out the shine
Fairy clusters can have a light, white powdery look straight from the earth.
Rub a tiny drop of olive, grapeseed or sesame oil over the cluster in your palm until it shines.
Buff it with a soft cloth to lift away any extra oil.
Skip coconut oil, which turns white when it is cold.

In crystal tradition, amethyst clusters are believed to bring a calming, soothing energy to a room and to help clear and protect its atmosphere. Amethyst is associated with the crown chakra, and it is a long-standing companion for meditation, intuition and spiritual practice.
