💚Labradorite crystal is sometimes called the stone of transformation. It is a crystal prized for its beauty with its brilliant flashes of color. It is thought to be good for intellect, intuition, and inspiration. Sometimes said to contain the Northern Lights, it is believed Labradorite allows you to see the possibilities in life. It is a wonderful crystal to keep around the home and in your various spaces.
💚 In crystal energy work, Labradorite is thought in new age spirituality to be closely connected with the Third Eye and the Crown Chakra, and is used for awareness and for connecting with our higher selves and the divine.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? Labradorite is inextricably linked to the magic of the night skies because of it origins in the northern hemisphere. Legend tells us that one of the greatest natural shows on earth, "The Aurora Borealis", was trapped inside the rocks of Labrador. There they lay, awaiting discovery amongst the Beothuk and the Inuit people.
WHAT IS LABRADORITE? Labradorite is a feldspar mineral. Most people associate labradorite with its labradorescence which is a play of colored reflections caused by the internal structures in the stone. Labradorite is usually blue and green, sometimes there are purple hues and it also can be yellow and orange. These colors play in the sun and shimmer thus creating a fantastic rainbow effect. Not all parts of a specimen have this quality, some parts of labradorite do not exhibit labradorescence. The labradorescence comes from light entering the stone.
The light strikes a twinning surface that is within the stone and reflects from it. The labradorescence is not coming from the surface of the specimen. The different twinning in the stone reflect the various colors of light which is why you will see the appearance of multiple colors. The flash or Labradorescence occurs only in two directions, so it takes a skilled gemstone worker to assess the rough stone, and make the cuts to keep this beauty.
WHERE IT'S FOUND? Labradorite is found in many locations in the world, but it was discovered in eastern Canada on Paul Island, near a settlement in Nain, Newfoundland and Labrador. Other countries in the world include Australia, Finland, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, United States.
