What is sodalite?
Princess Blue, with a hidden orange glow.
Sodalite is renowned for its captivating blue, though it can also appear in grey, yellow, green or pink, often mottled with white veins or patches. Under ultraviolet light it fluoresces a vibrant orange. Its rich color and patterns earned it the nickname “Princess Blue,” a gemstone fit for royalty.
It is a tectosilicate mineral with a high calcium, sodium and manganese content, forming where silica-rich fluids meet existing rocks and developing a unique cage-like inner structure. Sodalite was discovered in Greenland in 1811 and grew popular in 1891, when large deposits were found in Ontario, Canada.
The stone of intuition, logic and communication.
Sodalite is known for enhancing intuition, mental clarity and communication, a valued stone for spiritual growth and self-expression. It is thought to bring emotional balance and harmony, helping release old patterns and fears while fostering self-acceptance, confidence and inner peace, and is believed to support logical thinking, rational decision-making and intellectual pursuits.
In crystal energy work, sodalite is commonly associated with the Throat chakra, said to aid clear communication, self-expression and the ability to speak your truth with confidence.
Certain metaphysical beliefs connect sodalite with Atlantis: legend says its priests and priestesses revered the stone for spiritual insight, intuition and psychic ability, used it to access the Akashic records, and relied on it to keep the lost city in harmony and balance.
In crystal tradition, spheres send energy out equally in every direction, and their symmetrical shape is thought to emit a high frequency of positive energy.
Through the ages, crystals and stones have been collected and prized for their timeless beauty, their rich history and their spiritual and metaphysical properties. We believe in the mystical properties of crystals, though nothing we sell comes with any sort of magical guarantee.
