1. Prehnite and its Origins

First discovered in 1788 by A.G. Werner, Prehnite was named after the Dutch Military Colonel, Hendrik Von Prehn who was in charge of the area where the mineral was found. Since its discovery, prehnite has since been found in other parts of the world like China, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. In the year 2000, a very rare pocket of orange prehnite was found in the N’chwaning mine in South Africa, but the source was depleted by 2002 and this orange prehnite is yet to be found again anywhere.

2. Prehnite and the Sun

Many years ago, Australian Aborigines believed that Prehnite could absorb and store the sun’s energy. When night set in, the stone would light up of its own accord and become very warm. It was also believed that Prehnite had the ability to ward off creatures of the night, including malevolent spirits. This association with the sun would later connect the stone with the solar plexus chakra and its abilities to enhance willpower.

3. Prehnite, a stone of Leaders

Long before anyone in South Africa knew of chakral energetic systems, Prehnite was seen as a vital tool for those in leadership positions. Shamans believed that the stone lent them the ability to make the right decisions for their tribe. This is fascinating considering that they had no way of knowing the stone’s healing properties aside from just feeling for it energetically. Then again, that’s what prehnite is all about - leading with the heart.

4. Prehnite in Spiritual Healing

Many beliefs surround healing crystals in general, but Prehnite is a special case as it helps to connect with entities of higher realms. Because of its calming abilities, the stone is said to dispel nightmares, night terrors, phobias, and deep fears as it removes and heals the dis-ease which creates them. It is a stone of lucid dreaming and remembering, while it also calms hyperactive children.

5. Prehnite in Egyptian Ceremony

In ancient Egypt, Prehnite was believed to be a sacred stone that connected the wearer to the divine. The Egyptians believed that the stone had the power to foretell the future and was used by the high priests and priestesses during their divination practices. It was also believed to be the key to the afterlife, as the stone was often placed in the tombs of pharaohs as a symbol of eternal life. In fact, one of the largest known Prehnite deposits is located in Upper Egypt, where it was mined extensively during ancient times. The Egyptians also used Prehnite for its healing properties, as it was believed to ease nightmares and provide protection during childbirth. Its rich history and cultural significance make Prehnite a truly fascinating stone with a deep connection to ancient lore.
